Diamond in the Rough
Diamond in the rough is an ongoing project that explores the everyday life of a young boy, Omotore, who is going against all odds to be a better person. Often times when we hear of the place Bariga we tend to think the people living there are nothing but criminals and gang members. But here's a story of a young boy, who lost his father at the age of 14, his mum sent his siblings and him to school from profits she made from selling periwinkle he would pick from a nearby swamp, but still manages to be the head of his house by providing for them doing legal jobs.
He's into shoemaking, a fisherman just like his dad, a tailor, a drummer, an actor, and a musician. He hopes to study sociology at the University of Lagos someday and with this project, I hope to debunk this myth by showing the world that something good can come out of the craziest of places.
